Military Battlebox opens in Madang Complex

Retired Major Mohd Amin’s store houses thousands of collectibles, outdoor gear and military merchandise

Madang Complex’s Block D is home to a new, unusual tenant who’s shuffled thousands of military-themed merchandise into a single storefront.

Military Battlebox – owned and run by 41-year-old Mohd Amin Awang Damit – a retired Army Major, combat diver, marathoner and backpacker – is hoping to cater to adventurers, military enthusiasts and collectors.

You’ll find helmets, backpacks, binoculars, boots, masks, knives and camping gear along with an array of headgear and functional clothing for testing outdoor adventures.

“I first started Battlebox two years before I retired (from the army),” said Amin. “That was back in 2012. We had a small shop in Lambak but we needed to move to a bigger location in Madang so we could accommodate even more items; more variety.”

The former major, who enlisted to the army while still a teen, is keen to give visitors insight into functional gear; whether it’s water resistant clothing, multi-purpose survival knives and tactical bags, as well as the anecdotes behind the wide array of military collectibles.

“We also bring in items that would be helpful to (actively serving) uniformed personnel, such as unit patches, holsters, boots, and accessories,” said Amin. “When traveling I also keep an eye out for collectibles that fit my customers’ interests; these are usually rare or limited (editions) items.”

If you’re a uniformed service member, an outdoors enthusiast or just a fan of military themed items and collectibles – drop by the shop at Unit 28, Block D of Madang Complex to take a look. It’s open from 10am until 7pm daily.
