17 local e-commerce businesses will be showcasing promotions on their products and services at the CyberShop Fair this February 2 to 3 at The Airport Mall’s atrium.

The CyberShop Fair is a physical extension of Authority for Info-Communications Technology Industry’s (AITI) second CyberShop Festival which hopes to encourage more Bruneians to shop from local online businesses through promotions including discounts, free shipping, giveaways and othe rewards.

The fair opens up an opportunity for online businesses to showcase their brands in person, and capitalize on their promotions tied to the festival which is currently ongoing until the end of February.

Managing director of Brunei’s only online pet products store Nimanja Anderson Lim said that they were currently offering five to 50% discounts on their website.

“We participated in the first CyberShop Festival last year where they also set up at ICC in conjunction with the Consumer Fair and it helped us increase awareness of our offline and online sales platforms,” said Anderson, who will be opening Nimanja’s third store at One City Shopping Centre next week.

“We’ll be using the CyberShop Fair to show customers our online-only promotions and how they can order through our website and enjoy free delivery for orders above $50 (in Brunei-Muara).”

AITI’s Senior Manager for Internet Economy Rosnani Haji Mohd Yussof said that their recent survey showed that although 76% of Bruneians had made online payments, the majority of these were from foreign vendors. 24% of respondents also said they don’t shop online, citing fear of fraud and preference to shop in physical stores.

Rosnani added that the CyberShop Fest – also supported by Department of Economic Planning and Development and Darussalam Enterprise – was one of their annual initiatives to help improve consumer confidence in shopping from local online vendors.
