For his efforts in transforming a fish farm in his parents’ backyard into two Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism sites producing upwards of 500kg monthly, Fatih Aquaculture was honoured with the Startup Award at Proudly Brunei Business Awards 2025.
Fathi began his entrepreneurial journey five years ago as a UBD student studying Biodiversity and Biology.
After experimenting with raising red tilapia and sea bass at home, he joined DARe’s ecosystem under Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB).
From joining the startup development programme Accelerate, to securing their co-matching grant, and recently receiving another US$38K through the ASEAN Blue Innovation Challenge — Fathi’s journey is a leading example of local youth thriving in aquaculture.
Now with national recognition, founder Fathi Norafan has set his sights on doubling his output to one tonne monthly, while also looking to expand into other verticals.
