Poni Divers built their business around recreational diving, with much of their clientele coming from tourists. So when borders closed during the pandemic, founder Tahsin Wong found himself at a crossroads.
He pivoted by launching Poni Marine, using their diving expertise to offer specialised subsea services—including engineering, repairs, surveys—aiming to cater to any professional work done underwater.
In recognition of their continued growth, Poni Marine received the Business Growth Award at this year’s Proudly Brunei Business Awards.
It marks their third overall win, having received two awards last year under the Poni Group. Poni is part of BEDB’s ecosystem, having joined DARe programmes including Elevate, Standards Consultancy, and the Brunei Mentors for Entrepreneurs Network.
BEDB also facilitated their applications to regional competitions, including the ASEAN Business Award and ASEAN Blue Innovation Challenge—where they were among 60 winners, receiving a US$40,000 grant.
