Ten contracts under the Brunei Shell Joint Venture (BSJV) Companies’ basic quadrant of services will be awarded by the fourth quarter of 2018 and first quarter of 2019 through the first phase of the newly announced I-Usahawan initiative.
At a briefing yesterday to more than 300 aspiring and existing entrepreneurs at the Brunei Shell Recreational Club’s Ball Room, BSJV representatives said that successful applicants would be equipped with the tools to tender for a contract with BSJV companies through their Energy Business Academy (EBA).
“Through EBA, companies will learn about the oil and gas industry, ethics and compliance, supply chain management and the BSJV tender process, HSSE and quality management, as well as financial management,” said Brunei Shell Petroleum’s (BSP) In-Country Value Manager Hjh Rosita Hassan.
BSJV will be issuing an expression of interest on May 28, with businesses given four weeks to apply and another two weeks to register through BSJV’s Vendor Online Registration System. Successful applicants will undergo the EBA programme in July with BSJV tenders issued in August and the earliest contracts awarded November.
The programme is open to local businesses wholly owned by Bumiputra (Brunei indigenous) between the ages of 21 and 40 years old, who have yet to earn a contract with government-linked companies or BSJV companies – which include BSP, Brunei LNG and Brunei Shell Marketing.
The 10 contracts – which carry potential extensions – for the first phase I-Ushawan are:
- Provision of Grass Cutting for BSP non-hydrocarbon areas (from Rasau to Muara)
- Provision for Landscape Maintenance and Horticulture for BSP Non-hydrocarbon areas
- Canteen, cube, and vending machine services at BSP HQ
- Videography and Photography Services
- Event Management Services
- Recycling Waste Management
- Disposal of Solid Waste (Domestic)
- Supply and Maintenance of bicycles for BSJV
- Provision of Tea/Coffee Services and Office Support Services for BLNG
- Landscape, Horticulture, Gardening and Grass Cutting Services for BLNG
During the contract period companies will also have access to the BSJV credit facility program from either Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) or Baiduri Bank, as well as experienced mentors to help them.
Hjh Rosita Hassan said during yesterday’s briefing that I-Usahawan was part of BSP’s wider In Country Value (ICV) initiative which focuses on providing opportunities for locally made goods and services, social investment and capability development, in line with His Majesty The Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s titah encouraging entrepreneurship and local business development (LBD)
She also added that there would be more phases and cycles for I-Usahawan in the future. LBD in BSJVs are divided into four quadrants: highly specialised, core, development and basic.
