Ten local producers under Darussalam Enterprise’s (DARe) Bruneian Made initiative are being highlighted at the inaugural Borneo Bulletin Yearbook (BBYB) Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Showcase which is running until Sunday at One Riverside.

DARe’s Bruneian Made initiative aims to help local brands and products enter the market through a dedicated shelf located in ten supermarket branches as well as a separate display shelf called “Unexpected Treasures” placed at strategic locations including the Brunei International Airport and The Empire.

More than 30 MSMEs have participated in Bruneian Made, with 10 making an appearance at the BBYB MSME Showcase: bruneihalalfoods, Taurean Bakeshop, Amal Hadizat, Iman Putera, Rumah Gelato, Volco Venture, V Sports, Batik Patik, Sabli’s, and Mahkota Crystal.

This weekend’s event will collectively showcase more than 20 local businesses featured in BBYB and also bring together business solutions provided by financial institutions and telecommunication companies.

Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy YB Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Hj Mohd Amin Liew Abdullah said local products are continuing to improve despite the difficulties posed by the global coronavirus pandemic.

“The challenging experiences we faced this year have provided us with the opportunity to re-evaluate our priorities and directions to ensure that we are always on the right path; to be more adaptable to the ever-changing trends on our respective industries and to be more innovative with product development and sales, which are all important attributes in this era where maximising the use of technology is the new norm,” he said in his opening remarks as the event’s guest of honour.

“As seen over the past year, concerted efforts will continue to be taken by the Government and all relevant stakeholders, to support growth and innovation in the private sector, especially for MSMEs, and to protect the jobs in the private sector, especially during times of crisis,” he added.

BIBD, who are the event partner for the showcase, are showcasing six women entrepreneurs under the third cohort of their Special Underprivileged Mothers Empowerment Entrepreneurship Development programme (BIBD SEED).

Mumtaz and Mukaku Cosmetics, participants of the bank’s other entrepreneurship development programme BIBD Catalyst – along with clients At Taqwa Travel Tours, Dil Coffee Trail and Gelatiamo – are also participating under the BIBD banner.

The bank is also showcasing its SME360 platform and MSME-focused solutions including QuickPay and the MSME current account.

The BBYB MSME Showcase is located at Plaza 2 and runs from 10am to 10pm.
